Our History – The Roots of Success

A decade in business… a lifetime of passion.

01 A Passion For Climbing

While many kids were playing in the dirt, racing cars, and making mud pies, Dylan Foley was climbing. Before he could ride a bike without training wheels, he was scaling the branches of an overgrown crabapple tree in his backyard.
Surely, seeing Dylan maneuver dry tree branches 10 feet in the air was the cause of more than one of his mother’s grey hairs. But that didn’t stop him – before he reached double digits, he could climb the deck railing onto a lower-level roof to bang on bedroom windows, much to the annoyance and terror of his older sister.

03 Planting The Seed

In 2014, Dylan Foley started Foley Tree Service as a side gig with only a sun- beaten old two-door stick shift Sonoma, clocking in at over 300,000 kilometres on the odometer. He regularly rented equipment he couldn’t yet afford to own, such as chippers, dump trucks, and bucket trucks. Later that year, he upgraded his truck to a new-to-him GMC with more power and fewer bumps and scratches.

04 Building Foley Tree Service

After three years working for others while growing Foley Tree Service on the side, Dylan jumped in with both feet, dedicating all his time and energy to growing his business and brand. He purchased a small trailer and bought his first chipper – small, used, and with visible rust, but it did the job. Within a year, Dylan hired his first employee, who remains a dedicated Foley Tree Service employee today.

05 Spreading Roots: A Year of Growth

For Foley Tree Service, 2018 was a monumental year. Dylan Foley reflected on the business’s progress by the end of that year, stating: “For Foley Tree Service and myself, 2018 was an incredible year. I never could have imagined that after just one year, when all I had was a pickup and a 25-year-old chipper, that I would have accomplished so much. In just one year, we grew to have a fleet of two dump trucks, a plow truck, a dump trailer, a brand-new chipper, a stump grinder, and the best crew behind it all that I could ever have asked for.” Humbled by his success, Dylan acknowledged that Foley Tree Service wasn’t a feat he could have tackled on his own and expressed gratitude for the support from his community and his dedicated staff. “I couldn’t have pulled it off without my amazing crew.”

06 Flourishing Saplings: Healthy Growth

In the following years, Foley Tree Service continued to grow. Dylan bought his first new truck, a Chevy Silverado 3500, followed by a new chipper. He then broke ground on building Foley Tree Service’s first official shop and headquarters. By 2023, the business had outgrown its headquarters, prompting Dylan to purchase an acreage large enough to accommodate future growth. In 2024, construction began on a new headquarters – a 40×60 mezzanine with multiple garages to house the growing fleet.

07 Rings of Success: Trusted Expertise

Expanding Branches: A Memorable Milestone

When asked about one of his biggest highlights during the growth of Foley Tree Service, Dylan recalled a particular job in 2018 – removing an enormous Carolina poplar.

“It must have been about 10 feet in diameter. When we started taking it down, we discovered a massive colony of bees. It was over six feet long, with thousands of bees and hundreds of pounds of hive and honey.” The job was delayed until a beekeeper could safely remove the queen bee and the colony.
